Makes No Difference Who You Are, Believe
Since November 2010, Cheryl Patterson and Universal Xperience have been especially blessed to collaborate with Multi-Grammy Award Songwriter Producer Tommy Sims because he desires to inspire children; young performing arts students. I produce and provide these Experiential (hands-on) Learning Xperiences for young performing art students with a strong focus on musicians. Then, I put someone like Tommy Sims in the mix and wow! What you get are some very successful outcomes with students not wanting to walk-away but doing so in complete awe that a national award winning rock star can be so humble and approachable. They walk-away totally inspired because they have been influenced by someone who wrote a Grammy Song of the Year when he was their age – 16!
These young musicians, singers, songwriter all walk-away thinking, “Yeahhhh, I’m going to do that too.” And, we believe they can. It makes no difference who they are, we believe they can and they must believe they can, too. You see, that’s my quest, my mission – to encourage them to believe, again. So, even though they walk-away, they do so equipped with information, a new friend in Tommy Sims and an Xperience to last a life-time!
I design these Experiential (hands-on) Learning Xperiences to introduce and provide young musicians the opportunity to perform music Tommy has written, perform music that has inspired him AND students also get an unheard of opportunity to perform as an orchestra, choir or jazz combo with Tommy Sims. During a remarkable student-lead open mic session, Tommy gets an opportunity to observe the individual talents of students performing their original pieces.
So, it is up close and personal with award earning musicians and sincere human beings like Tommy Sims who selects to use their gifts (talents/skills) to inspire, impact and change the world. It is my sincerest desire that every young musician, singer, songwriter . . realize that truly, it “Makes No Difference Who U Are, Believe.” Tommy Sims did.
Tommy Sims wrote the song “Change The World” when he was 16 years old while attending high school in Michigan. Years later, Tommy joined the song writing team for Eric Clapton and earned a Grammy for Song of the Year. Although his original lyrics were changed, Tommy’s melody remained the same as he created it when he was 16. Since then, Tommy Sims has earned 5 Grammy Awards.
Tommy’s artistry as writer, producer and session player has been featured on work by artists as diverse as Sheryl Crow, Marvin L. Winans, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Mraz, T-Pain, Jason Crabb, Akon, Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Amy Grant, Susan Tedeschi, Wynonna Judd, Toni Braxton, Blackstreet, Craig David, CeCe Winans, The Neville Bothers, Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang, Michelle Williams, Michael McDonald, ForeverJones, Darwin Hobbs, Donald Lawrence, Israel and New Breed, Anita Wilson and many more!
