Makes No Difference Who You Are, Believe

The World Comes to Church Making the Xperience, Universal

On Saturday, February 18, 2012, we truly witnessed an Universal Xperience.

The world literally tuned in online to view the private home-going services of an American icon – Whitney Houston.

It was the prayer of Whitney’s friend, also an American icon in the music industry, Cece Winans,  ” . . . I want God to be glorified through the passing of my friend and sister. She would want that!”

As the world viewed, some to pay tribute and some to be entertained, we all were encouraged by Pastor Marvin L. Winans to do some soul searching, some self-assessment.  Pastor Winans encouraged the world to PRIORITIZE .

MATTHEWS 6:25 – Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

MATTHEW 6:33 –  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  34 – Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

2Peter1:3 – According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

I shared several key quotes from Pastor Marvin L. Winans that IMPACTED me.  Lol, and that could be the entire sermon; after all he has been my Pastor and since 2002 and gives me wise counsel.  So, I am drawn and find spiritual and practical significance for my life (personal and professional) in what he says:

Prioritize – to arrange in order of importance;  setting up your life on things that really matter.

I want to thank mama Houston, Cissy, for your willingness to forget about everything else and to have this service here.  That took a lot of courage. And because of that, you’ve brought the world to church today.

Somebody lied on Jesus, but I want to set the record straight. That somehow living for the Lord is boring, unproductive, without existence  . . .  Nothing could be further from the truth.  According to John 10:10, Jesus said, The thief comes but to steal and to kill. I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.

It amazes me how  the Believer is ambiguous about God.  When in fact we ought to know Him. The only way to know Him is to have Him included in what you do, not excluded.

Don’t’  get nervous about life. The life, the breath is more important than what you eat, what you put on they can not equate to life itself.  Jesus is not saying that we should life live aimlessly without dreams or aspirations.  To let life happen and just except what comes your way.  He is actually saying the opposite.

Our salvation was not given to Christ. He had to buy it.  Jesus came with purpose and fought to obtain our deliverance for it. Salvation is free; but it is not cheap.

One of the qualities of faith is expectation.  Now faith is the substance of things hope for, the evidence of  things not seen.  So, if you find someone without expectations or hope, that individual is void of faith because faith expects and faith always moves toward his goal.

So, don’t think that the Church is for somebody that don’t want anything.  Don’t think the Church is for somebody that can’t get a gig anywhere else.  Don’t think that the church is for people that do not have hope or can not make impact.  It is in fact the complete opposite.  It is (directly) opposed to what Jesus is about.  John writes (in the Bible) and says, But, I would above all things that you prospers and be in health even as your soul prospers.

We are dealing with the misappropriation of what’s important. The devil wants to use your circumstances against you by making you become anxious when things do not happen on your timetable. He wants you to assume responsibility. That you become the master of your own fate.  To trust in your abilities to make things happen and thereby abdicating your faith in Jesus.  But Jesus doesn’t want you to become  anxious about life. He doesn’t want you to feel as if life happens without purpose.

God works all things after the council of his own will.  You are not a mistake. You are not a mishap. God had a purpose before He ever created a person. Your existence on earth is significant.  God had purpose for you.

When you buy a car, you are given an owner’s manual.  It doesn’t tell you where to drive the car or who to let in your car.  It tells you how to get  the best performance out of the  car.  When people look at the Bible, they look at if from the wrong perspective.  (The Bible) this is the owner manual.  The things that God has setup (in the Bible) is for you get the best performance out of your life.

Someone has to be in control. Someone has to be subservient to the other.  Either you love God or you’ll serve money.  You can’t serve money and God.  Prioritize.

God doesn’t want anyone to be broke. Understand that the manual(Bible) gives us testimonies of how to live. When God brought the Israel out of Egypt everybody came out with something.

To believe that God wants us to be broke says that God does not have enough sufficiency to supply our needs.

What God desires for everyone is that everyone to be healthy and prosperous.

God is saying you don’t have to worry about it because, I got you.  If I’m not going to worry about what is going to become of me, than God says,  I got you.

Sometimes the world is afraid of Church folk. One Muslim says, he wish he’d met Christ before the Christian.

Because sometimes we are Believers Behaving Badly.

Here is the priority for the believer.  Jesus said I am going to give you the order of how it should go.

Seek ye first the kingdom.  The first thing that comes to our mind when we begin to do things would be, is this consistent with kingdom living?

Don’t put the cart before the horse. We want to seek things before we seek the kingdom.

Seek you first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. With everything I do I want to remain in right standing with God.  I want my life to please Him.

The gifts that we  have are God’s gifts to us, but the life that we live is our gift to God.  And, God says, I got you.

If you seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, then all these things shall be added.  That is the part that allows you to work the foundation of your faith.  To allow God to take you through a wilderness area knowing He is going to make u better for it.  And,when I get in the middle of a valley, is not a time for me to leave my faith but to trust that God is still with me.

That if He has us on a sunny afternoon.  He has us on a dark night – He got you.

I want us to recognize that our faith in God must not be something we attach to the end of our lives, but that we must prioritize.
That you make your decision based on your faith.  You walk according to what you believe.

Knowing that you can never say yes to God and God make you ashamed.

You can never put God first and God forget and leave you.

THE PRAYER
Father we thank you for this life of Whitney Elizabeth “Nippy” Houston. I pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit give us the thought to Prioritize.  To make you first. For us not to talk about you but for us to live for you. Let us leave here recognizing, Whitney left too soon. Let us leave here impacted by her life, saying, I want to finish what God started.  Let us make you first, let us PRIORITIZE.  We will not leave here bitter or upset, but let the Church say Amen. God has spoken, so let the Church say Amen.
I am deeply moved, refreshed and greatly inspired by the life, the struggles and the wonderful musical gifts of Whitney Houston.  The remarkable relevant sermon preached by Pastor Marvin L. Winans is in a sense an appeal, a call-to-action for all the living family and friends who loved and supported Whitney. I know Whitney would most certainly endorse this message to – PRIORITIZE.
Blessing, Peace and most of all I wish you Love,
Cheryl

Hey!! Much love. Who would have thought that in our day we’d see the world tune into a Church service where the sermon was not a speech but the Word of God giving life to the living. It was a perfect bittersweet ending to a remarkably gifted and loved person’s life here on earth – Whitney Houston.

Peace & Love but most of all I wish you, Love.
